At AcademicAbuse.com, your privacy and safety are critically important. This site was created as a safe, anonymous space for people to learn about, expose, and resist abuse in academia. We are committed to protecting your data and giving you full control over what you share.

Information We Collect

  1. Anonymous User Stories: We collect anonymous stories about academic abuse through a voluntary survey. We do not request or store names, email addresses, or any directly identifying information. All submissions are optional and anonymous.

  2. Analytics and Website Activity: We use Google Analytics to better understand how people use the site. This includes:

    1. Page views, scroll depth, outbound link clicks

    2. Device type and general location (city/state)

    3. Form submissions and file downloads

    4. Search terms used on the site

    5. Video engagement

  3. Cookies are used to collect this data. These cookies help us measure site performance and improve content. We do not sell or share your browsing data.

 

Do Not Track (DNT)

We honor user privacy preferences and configure Google services not to use personal data if consent is not granted.

 

Sensitive Data Protection

  1. We do not collect identifying information alongside any stories of academic abuse.

  2. All sensitive data is voluntarily submitted by users.

  3. Once 100 stories are collected, we will publish an interactive dashboard with aggregated, anonymized data for research and education.

  4. No personally identifying information will ever be shared publicly.

 

Data Security​

  1. All user activity and site data are stored securely via Wix’s encrypted services.

  2. Payment processing (if applicable) is encrypted and PCI-compliant.

  3. Member accounts on the site are also encrypted.

  4. In the event of a data breach, affected users will be notified promptly via a public notice on the website.

Your Rights and Choices

  1. You are not required to submit any data to access our content.

  2. You may decline analytics tracking by adjusting cookie settings on your browser.

  3. You may request that your anonymous submission be removed from the dashboard if you believe it contains information that could identify you (contact below).
